Area of Travel
Rentals on the East Coast are to the area between Adelaide in South Australia and Cape Tribulation (north of Cairns) in Queensland that is within 500km of the coast.

You can apply at the time of booking or before pick up to have the above area amended to meet your specific needs; however travel outside this area is at the sole discretion of Driveabout Campers.

Travel outside the outside east coast area is permitted when approved as per your rental agreement.  Additional fees may apply depending on your rental term. Eg. Areas include: Western Australia, Northern Territory, Mt Isa, Bourke, Broken Hill and Alice Springs.

Road Restrictions

Vehicles must be kept on sealed roads at all times (tar, asphalt and concrete).  All vehicles may only be driven on recognised roads as shown on maps.  Driving on unsealed roads up to 500 metres to a camp site or rest area or breach access is permitted.

All insurance and refundable money is waived if the above conditions are breached.  Any damage and/or recovery costs are the responsibility of the renter.

East Coast travel of Australia only, unless authorised.

Repairs

All repairs must be authorised by Driveabout campers prior to any repair work.  Repairs will be approved provided the renter was not directly responsible for the damage.  Driveabout Campers will reimburse you for expenses incurred for any authorised repairs as long as receipts can be presented.  We will not accept any responsibility for hotel or motel charges, meals or out of pocket expenses, in the case of breakdowns or for any lost days, but we will reimburse lost days hire.

Note:  all our campervans are serviced every 5000km.  We will arrange for the campervan to be serviced at our cost, but you will have to be without the use of campervan for the time taken to service.  If you travel beyond this distance without Driveabout Campers’ consent and if you breakdown we will not be responsible for any loss of days hire or accommodation or meal charge or out of pocket expenses.

You will be responsible for ALL mechanical repairs and subsequent damage and any retrieval costs of you travel and breakdown beyond the service period eg. worn out brakes, broken fan belt, etc.

You must inform us at least 48 hours or 500km prior to the required service interval due, so we can book the campervan in for a service at next available service town.  Service not available on weekends or public holidays.

Toll Charges

All our campervans are fitted with E-tags or video pass for your convenience, we will charge at the end of hire cost of tolls, plus a $5.50 handling administration fee.

Traffic Infringements

We reserve the right to charge the renter an administration fee of $55 for any traffic or parking infringements.  You must inform Driveabout Campers in the event of an accident at the earliest possible opportunity and no later than 24 hours.

Vehicle Consultation

On pick up of the campervan our staff will provide a complimentary consultation.  This includes an explanation of where everything is and how to use them.

Credit Cards

We only accept MasterCard and Visa Cards and there will be a merchant fee of 2% of the total hire. A minimum administration fee of $22.00 applies regardless of payment method.

Exchange Rate/Currency Variations

All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars, due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared with the rate initially charged.  We will not accept any liability for this.

Bond Deposit/Vehicle Excess

A bond is required on all vehicles at time of collection.  This is determined by the excess reduction option.  Your security bond can be paid by credit card or (cash - Gold Coast branch only).  The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the vehicle security bond upon vehicle collection.  The cardholder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle.  The security bond is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, undamaged, in clean order, with the correct amount of fuel and to the right location.  Failure to return the vehicle clean and all items listed on the signed form, undamaged or without the correct fuel level or to the wrong location will incur a fee which will be advised upon return of the vehicle.  Where there is a pick up offsite the bond must be prepaid.

In the event of an accident in which you are not at fault, we will hold your bond until the 3rd party agrees to pay our costs.  Once these costs are met we will refund to you your bond less admin fees and expenses, and loss of rental.

Where a higher bond is utilised the insurance excess portion is refunded (where applicable) and the renter must submit a letter of demand for the remaining bond portion to the 3rd party.

Where we are unable to recover costs then it is the renter who is responsible to recover the excess money from the third party.  Please note some insurance claims can take months or even years to resolve.

Vehicle Excess

The renter is responsible for the excess of the cost of damage to their rented vehicle or third party property, including: towing, recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism.  This also includes the cost of the daily rentals for the period the vehicle is off road for accident repairs.  The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental.  The excess will be refunded is we are successful in recovering all the cost of the damages from the third party.  Please note that insurance claims can take months to resolve.  The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.  All damage covered is forfeited if the terms and conditions of the rental agreement are breached.

Vehicle Pick Ups and Drop Offs

In order to prevent unnecessary delays and to maximise your holiday experience please make contact with the pickup branch 24 hours before collecting your vehicle.  This will allow us to confirm with you the pickup time for your vehicle.  Drop offs must be before 4.30pm at all branches Monday to Friday and weekends by negotiated time except Cairns and Gold Coast which have late drop box facilities.

Early Returns
There is no refund for early returns.  Hirers are charged for the length of time booked, not the actual time used.

Maximum Number of Passengers
Rental vehicle may only be driven with the legal number of occupants.  Driving the vehicle with more than the maximum allowed number of persons voids all insurance and coverage and could result in a $250 breach of duty charge or loss of the bond.

Cleaning Fee

Special events have extra requirements and will be advised on pickup).  The washing of linen is not required.  A minimum fee of $88 will apply if the vehicle is returned in an unsatisfactory condition at the manager’s discretion.  Cleaning will not be allowed when you return your vehicle at any depot; it must be completed prior to return of vehicle.

Island Trips
All Driveabout Campers’ vehicles are restricted to mainland Australia (except for Magnetic Island and North Stradbroke Island which is permitted).  Trips to islands, including Tasmania and Kangaroo Island are allowed only with prior permission from Driveabout Campers.  All recovery costs from any island are the renter’s responsibility, regardless of cause.  Unauthorised travel will void all insurance and coverage.  Hirers will also be responsible for all costs associated with the rental, including servicing, breakdown and recovery as well as loss of bond.

Repairs and Breakdowns

If you experience any problems, even minor, you must contact Driveabout Campers for further assistance and advice.  We will approve repairs provided the renter was not directly responsible for the damage.  Tax invoices must be submitted or the claim will not be paid.  Repairs of any nature cannot be made without Driveabout Campers authorisation.  Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported to Driveabout Campers as soon as possible and within 24 hours in order to give Driveabout Campers the opportunity to rectify the problem; we cannot guarantee all items for any claims submitted after this period.  Malfunctions of radio, television, DVD players, GPS, cabin lights, air-conditioning, fridges, water pumps, etc are not considered mechanical breakdowns and downtime will not be paid.
